Contacts & email invites

Pluto allows you to add a parent/guardian and a separate primary contact if relevant for session invites. This guide will help you understand the difference so that invites always reach the right person.

Parent or guardian vs primary contact

The parent or guardian is the adult responsible for the child or young person, whereas the primary contact is used as the default recipient for sending session invites to the child or young person. Often, the parent/guardian's email address is also the primary contact, but this is not always the case.

You can enter the parent/guardian email when adding a client, and change primary contact details when editing a client. You can also manually decide who should receive an invite each time you schedule a session.

Automatic session invites

When scheduling a session, you can opt in or out of sending automatic email invites. If you choose to send them, you'll need at least one recipient for that session: a primary recipient, or one or more additional recipients. If neither has been provided, you won't be able to proceed.

The primary recipient is intended for the child

The primary recipient is the main way the client (i.e., child or young person) joins their session. In Pluto, we assume that whoever opens the link sent to the primary contact is joining as the child or young person.

You can also include additional recipients by entering one or more email addresses. Pluto does not make any assumptions about who these participants are.

How an invite reaches someone

An invite is sent as an email containing the session time, a secure link, a session join code, and a calendar file recipients can add to their own calendar. Participants don't need a Pluto account to join a session. You can read more about this at sending session invites and joining a session. Session links or codes can also be copied and shared in other ways if automatic email invites are not convenient.
